Section Leader Development Assessment

Reporting to the Group Leader Sustainable Places, the Section Leader Development Assessment will drive the strategic Development Assessment services of Coffs Harbour City Council.

In this role, you will embrace the values of Coffs Harbour City Council and provide leadership, direction and support to the Development Assessment Section. You will promote and deliver expert advice to the leadership team and Council and be integral with your contribution to the development and implementation of an internal service delivery framework, ensuring high quality services for our customers.

Other responsibilities include:

  • Managing the budget process including the development of annual budgets, preparation, management and review of budget allocations and approval of all variances in the Section.
  • Providing strategic input and advice to the Leadership and staff on policy, program and legislative issues related to the Section.
  • Providing input into the preparation and delivery of innovative Strategic and Operational Plans in accordance with Integrated Planning and Reporting requirements for the Section.
  • Considering whether decisions or actions will have a negative impact on the environment or the community, either now or in the future.
  • Applying environmental laws and associated systems and processes to control the risk of serious or irreversible impact on the environment.
  • Undertaking responsibilities in accordance with Council delegations.
  • Attending Council and Councillor briefings and meetings as required.

About you

We are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced professional to provide excellence in people leadership and supporting a large high performing and collaborative team.

If you have extensive knowledge and experience within the Development Assessment, Building Certification and Development Engineering fields, along with relevant tertiary qualifications in Urban and Regional Planning, Building Surveying, Urban Design or similar and are keen to achieve innovative outcomes for the organisation, this is the opportunity for you.

Your exceptional leadership qualities, high level of interpersonal, oral and written communication skills and ability to manage multiple priorities at once, will provide essential to your success in this role.

Salary

Starting salary range of $115K to $122K based on experience + superannuation + 2% salary increase as of July 2022.

Additionally, a lease back vehicle option may be available.

All other conditions of employment will be in accordance with Council's Enterprise Agreement and the NSW Local Government (State) Awards.
